Chandler House was delighted to host the third solo exhibition by commanding local painter, Oliver Scarlin. Following his sell-out exhibition, The Painter’s Plate in 2018, Scarlin introduced a new thread of subtle narrative to his domestic still-life works. The addition of everyday items – such as keys, napkins and seashells – alluded to a new sense of life being lived amidst the inanimate.
The artist has claimed the show as his most personal body of work shared to the public. Scarlin seemingly offered clues to the viewer, allowing the observer to gain quiet insight into his inner world. In 2019, Scarlin moved to a seaside apartment with his long-distance partner, Harry. Their shared home also houses the artist’s studio where each work was created. Fruition is not merely a collection of traditional and masterfully-executed still-life works, but rather, a humble celebration of the artist’s most valued passions.
