Margy Malan left this world in May after a short illness. While we miss her very much, we are able to access her and her spirit through the work that she left behind. A collector of Margy’s work has recently down-scaled and has decided to let some of her pieces go – they are found in the digital catalogue below. And its in these fragile ceramic pieces that we find her: the kitchen table with a white, plastic chair, recently pushed back so she can make a mid-morning cup of coffee, a tea-cup decorated with coastal fynbos from time spent in Tsikamma and a colossal landscape platter, featuring the majestic Mount Sochi rock in Malawi. Like going through an old family photograph album, or someone’s Instagram grid, we see glimpses of her world, and life, through these works that she made. Her finger prints and brush-marks feel as fresh as they day they came out of the kiln and we are comforted by having Margy with us again.
