The Phrenology Vase

36

By Michael Chandler

I was 21 years old when I found a reproduction of L.N. Fowler’s Phrenology Bust at the Portobello Market in London. I brought it home and used it to make moulds so that I could create my own busts to decorate. One thing lead to the other and the Phrenology Vase was born. I am always amazed that something so obviously human inspired is so genderless, ageless and raceless. Its an extraordinary object.
