Here, Now.

Jacques Viljoen has spent the last few months traveling around the Western Cape equipped with his portable easel, blank canvases and oil paints in search of subjects to paint. Like photographs taken on a road trip, we travel with the artist through the works he has painted en plein air. From misty beaches along the Garden Route, to farmers burning the dried remains of a harvest, one of the main focuses of this exhibition is time and place. The landscape works could never have been painted in a studio. And when you consider how light is always changing in the field, you can understand why being in the here and in the now is so important to an artist. ‘Here, Now.’ is an exhibition that lays testament to this spirit.
