The ceramic plate, designed by Michael Chandler, is a re-interpretation of the iconic English ‘Willow’ pattern design found in kitchens and pantries all around the world, with a story of forbidden love between an Chinese emporors daughter and an unsuitable gentleman from his court.
Michael has married his love for blue and white porcelain with his love for the Cape’s history on this plate, discovering the tragic love story of Maria Mouton and Titus of Bengal, forbidden lovers, sentenced to death at the Cape of Good Hope for their crimes.
“I hope these plates remind us of these stories so that they are never forgotten.”
A percentage of profits from these plates will be donated to an organisation that supports the victims of domestic abuse.
