The ‘IQ’ Vase

US$37

By Michael Chandler

Do you see two faces, or do you see a vase? And what does that say about how your brain works? This ceramic vase is based on the work done by Danish psychologist Edgar Rubin in 1915. The vase is an example of the figure-ground distinction that the brain makes during visual perception. More than 100 years later, we still don’t have consensus.

*fun fact: the profile of the face in the negative space is that of the Phrenology Vase

Height: 26,5cm
