Chandler House is delighted to welcome Jacques Viljoen back for an exhibition of new en-plein air painting after studying in Italy, where he graduated from the prestigious Florence Academy of Art. Jacques has returned with sharper technical skills as well as a deeper appreciation for the Cape and its natural beauty. In Florence, Viljoen spent much of his time in black-draped studios exploring the genres of portraiture, figure painting and still life. But back home Viljoen spends very little time indoors at all. Cape Town is a peach – especially in Summer. From the granite boulders that line the coast below, to Lion’s Head above the clouds, this exhibition is a gentle reminder that there really is no place like home.
*Jacques has set-up a temporary studio at Chandler House and will be painting live everyday this week between 10am and 5pm. Join us for the smell of linseed oil and turpentine, as well as a few other surprises, this week at Chandler House.
