Vases of Summer

A Solo Exhibition by Lené Ehlers

“A thing of beauty is a joy forever...”

We happened to open this exhibition on the Vernal Equinox, when the day and night are the same length. As from now, the nights get longer and the days cooler. Nature prepares for its annual leave by changing its colours and dropping off its leaves; things begin to slow down. If we backtrack to the Summer Solstice around December 22nd, the sun was it is zenith, and every living thing was trying to make the most of the warm days and the abundance of natural light. Flowers were blooming in a dazzling array of different colours and Lené Ehlers was in her studio, her brush, like a butterfly, flitting from blossom to bloom on her canvases; distilling this glorious Cape Summer in oil and colour.
